A spun-brass cachepot from the third quarter of the 19th century, struck on the base with the patent of Hiram W. Hayden — the Waterbury inventor whose method for spinning brass changed how America made its kettles and pails. This is the handsome version, mounted with a lion's mask and loose ring at each side, the brass gone to that deep honeyed patina only time gives. Made by the Ansonia Brass Company; a true piece of Connecticut brass history that happens to hold a fern beautifully.
