The Origins
Montgomery Gate started the way many good ideas do: with too much (or maybe too little) time on my hands. I was on maternity leave, deep in the particular kind of stillness that comes with a newborn, and I needed something to do with my hands and my brain that had nothing to do with bottles or burp cloths. But years before that, it started with a cameo ring — a gift from my grandmother, Nini. I fell in love with wearing a piece of history, and began collecting cameos in all forms. Then came Wedgwood Jasperware, and then came a little bit of everything.
With all that downtime, I realized I had a house full of antiques and felt compelled to begin sharing them. I have always believed that everyone deserves to have beauty in their home.
Montgomery Gate was born somewhere in that stillness — equal parts inheritance and instinct.
The Lady of the Gate
I'm Madison — the woman behind the curating, the captioning, and the occasional 11pm scroll through an online auction house looking for one more piece of rare jasperware.
I live in Nashville with my husband, a musician, which means our house is a happy mix of guitars and gilded glass. By day, I do creative and digital work for other brands, by night I am a mom to our baby girl, Charlotte, and by the hours in between, I run Montgomery Gate, sourcing and writing about the kinds of objects I'd want in my own home.
My affinity for old things started with a ring from my grandmother and the beautiful inspiration of my childhood home in Kentucky.
I'm still delighted, and a little surprised, that it became this.
The Philosophy
There's a case to be made that the Victorians, for all their excess, understood something we've mostly forgotten: that an object can be both useful and beautiful, that craftsmanship is worth the extra hour, and that a home should hold things with a little history in them, not just things that arrived in a box yesterday.
Montgomery Gate exists for the people who feel that too. Every piece is chosen, not just sourced — vetted for quality, character, and the kind of charm that doesn't fade with trends. Nothing here is mass-produced, and nothing here is pretending to be older or finer than it is.
