A wonderful antique copper coal scuttle in the classic helmet form — warm, softly patinated copper raised on a flared foot, with a swing-bail handle and side grip in blue-and-white delft porcelain, secured by ornate cast-brass mounts. Late 19th to early 20th century, in the Dutch tradition.
Long retired from the hearth, it's a showpiece now: extraordinary filled with lavender, hydrangea, or branches, or simply standing where its copper can glow against a blue-and-white room.
