A hand-painted Japanese Kutani dish in the classic aka-e palette — two cockerels rendered in fine rust-red brushwork, scattering grain across a clean white ground, framed by a warm terracotta border worked all over in gold sprigs and Greek-key banding. The canted-corner square form is traditional to Kutani and gives it wonderful presence for its size.
